For the 2017 Paddington Semi project, we transformed a dark, damp backyard into a bright, contemporary garden that invites relaxation and social gatherings while requiring minimal maintenance.
Scope of Work
For the Paddington Semi Project, the following tasks were undertaken:
Site Assessment and Planning:
We began by assessing the existing space, which was dark and damp, and identified ways to improve light and functionality. The goal was to create an inviting outdoor entertaining area that worked seamlessly with the home’s modern aesthetic.
Design, Planting, and Installation:
The design incorporated light-colored porcelain tiles to reflect natural light and brighten the space. We strategically planted Rhaphis palms, Elephant Ear, Iresine, and Calathea to create a lush backdrop. Custom concrete bench tops and a spotted gum “L” shaped bench seat were added to provide a versatile social area that could be adapted for different uses, such as a coffee table, dining table, or fire pit. Garden lighting was placed to highlight the plants and features, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere.
Clean Up:
Once construction was completed, we cleared the site of any debris and ensured all elements were correctly installed and functional, leaving the space ready for the clients to enjoy.

Sustainability was a key consideration throughout this project. We selected low-maintenance, durable materials and plants suited to the local environment, ensuring long-term beauty and minimal upkeep.
Outcome
The Paddington Semi garden was transformed into a bright and inviting entertaining space that blends modern design with lush, tropical planting. The combination of light tiles, rich timber elements, and strategic planting creates a functional, low-maintenance garden that complements the home’s aesthetic.
